FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is an exchange?

There are two types of exchanges, incoming, in which FFLV hosts members from other clubs, and outgoing, in which FFLV members travel together to other places and are hosted by FF clubs there.  Club member responsibilities differ in each case, so we will look at them separately.

Incoming Exchanges

Annually the FF International gathers data about clubs willing to participate in exchanges, e.g., how many they can host.  As soon as the club knows the schedule a member becomes the Exchange Director (ED) and informs International, and the contact at the hosting club.  The two clubs determine dates and other items of interest.  You can sign up to be a home host, a day host, a dinner host or to help with food or entertainment.

The cost is minimal, however you will be expected to pay for your own entry fee if one is required ( a lot of the things we do in Las Vegas are free), and you will pay for your meals.  Everyone in the club is kept informed and has ample opportunity to sign up for the things in which they want to participate.  It's a great way to meet people from other countries and learn about their culture.

Outgoing Exchanges

As with incoming exchanges, the schedule is announced well in advance and someone becomes the ED.  A sign up sheet will be passed around for you to indicate your interest in joining the exchange.  We understand that many people want to use frequent flyer miles, or for other reasons want to plan their own travel.  this is usually accommodated with an exchange.  Since you are being home hosted there are no housing costs.  They will plan a program which includes group activities and opportunities to explore your own interests with your host.  These activities introduce you to the area and its culture.  It's a great time.

Can I take a friend with me on an exchange?

There is a special form for anyone who is not a member who wishes to travel with an exchange.  The ED evaluates the data and 99.9% of the people are invited to join the exchange.

What if I get sick while I am traveling?

Special insurance is recommended for travel. It includes hospital care and transport.

What will Friendship Force cost me?

The annual membership is $26 for singles and $36 for couples or families.  The FFI magazine is $10 annually.

For outgoing exchanges there is a $75 fee to the hosing club, $75  plus a fee of about $75 to the International office (their source of income).

You will pay transportation costs, possibly some during the exchange or the extra costs of getting from the airport to the host town.  Travel insurance is recommended in case of accident or illness.

You will have some costs during the exchange for some meals, snacks, souvenirs and you are expected to bring a gift to your host and treat them to at least on meal out.

For Incoming exchanges costs depend on your participation.  Hosts provide most meals, transportation, entry fees are paid by each FFLV member, day hosts pay for their fuel, dinner hosts pay for the meal they serve, food providers pay for some of the food, etx.

Local costs: FFLV has a meeting bimonthly, a potluck is served.  On the off months there is an activity.  Some of these require an entry fee or the cost of a meal, some are free.
