TIPS ON THE LAS VEGAS STRIP and Downtown

 

Read the What’s On magazine.

Use the map of the strip.

Getting Around

a.      (tip- The Strip is much longer than it looks)

b.      Double-decker buses run 24 hours on the Strip.

c.       One-way $2.00 –Need exact fare (ask about a day pass)

d.      Trolley –9:30 a.m. –1:30 a.m. (see ad in What’s On for map)

e.      One-way $22.50, all day pass $6.50 –need exact fare.

f.        Monorail – one day pass $8

 

Shows

g.      Tip—purchase tickets as soon as possible.  Major shows will be sold out.

i.        Same-day tickets and ½ Price Show tickets –Four Queens (Downtown) plus other locations

j.        Vegas Show Tickets –The Showcase Shopping Center (near the Coco-Cola

building on the Strip)

k.       Defending the Caveman  playing at the Four Queens is reasonable and funny

 

 Things to Do

l.        Bellagio Conservatory –Botanical display (inside and free) Current exhibit is scenes along route 66

m.    Bellagio Fountain –musically coordinated water fountains (free).  Starts 3:00 p.m. M-F, noon Sat-Sun every 30 minutes of the day (every 15 minutes at night for best viewing).

n.      Wynn Resort –walk through the inside

o.      Mirage Casino—Seigfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat –admission about $10.

p.      Mandalay Bay –Shark Reef

q.      Bodies at the Tropicana –(discount coupons in What’s On).

r.       Pirate Show in front of Treasure Island –free

s.       Wax Museum at the Venetian

t.        Opera Show at the Venetian –free on the steps near the canal

u.      Dale Chihuly glass ceiling in the lobby of the Bellagio

v.       The gondolas at  the Venetian

w.     The pyramid at the Luxor –see inside –free

x.       Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton

y.       Roller Coaster atop New York New York

z.       Rides atop the Stratosphere

aa.  Talking statues at the Forum Shops in Caesars Palace –free

bb.  I Max Theater in Luxor

cc.   Backstage tour led by a showgirl Mon. Wed and Friday ($10 if see Jubilee as well)

 

6.   Outside the Strip

a.       (Newly Opened) Las Vegas Springs Preserve 10 a.m.-10 p.m. $18.95 ($17.95 seniors) Gardens and trails are free (Alta and Valley View Blvd)

      b.   The Atomic Testing Museum 9 a.m. -5 p.m.  $7-$10

c.      Old Mormon Fort (near downtown)

ee.  Fashion Show Mall—Dillard’s, Williams-Sonoma, etc.

ff.     Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace –upscale, fun to look

gg.  Grand Canal Shops at the Venetian—upscale, fun to look

hh.  Rue de la Paix at Paris Las Vegas

ii.   Various Outlet malls

 

 

Restaurants

(Note: all Casinos have several restaurants in different price ranges.   See What’s On

for list by hotel and prices).  Some Samples follow:

a.      Fashion Show Mall –good choices in all price ranges

b.      Mon Ami Gabe –Paris (sit outside and see the Bellagio Fountain) – expensive

c.       Prime at Bellagio –expensive steak house

d.      Atrium Café at Bellagio –excellent food, reasonable prices.

e.      Cheesecake factory at Caesar’s Palace (across from the Aquarium).--reasonable

f.        Harley-Davidson Café –Next to MGM Grand –Casual grille and bar.

g.      Hugos’s Cellar –Four Queens downtown, classic and moderately expensive

h.        All hotels have buffets

i.        Caesar’s Palace has a food court with unique choices
